Manchester Piccadilly Station

Lighting for transport includes also the station waiting rooms, where actually people might spend a big amount of their time, reading, discussing, or even working.

Manchester Picadilly Station is one of the busiest train stations in the UK, and the busiest one in Manchester, with over 30 million passenger entries and exits between April 2019 and March 2020 (Wikipedia).

RICOMAN Pure Panels 600×600 were recently supplied to illuminate Manchester Piccadilly train station waiting area. The room has a burgess ceiling so our panels with burgess clips make the perfect fit, with a quick and easy installation and an excellent efficacy of 110 lumens per watt.

The story behind this lighting project is challenging: RICOMAN were approached by a contractor who had a problem they thought we could provide a solution for. The contractor was faced with the issues of installing led panels into a ceiling with a metal clip in tile. A standard LED panel will not fit into a metal clip in tile ceiling (often referred to Burgess ceilings, SAS ceilings or Armstrong ceilings) therefore a contractor has the option of trying to cut round holes through a number of metal ceiling tiles to fit lots of downlights or come to RICOMAN for our burgess ceiling clips.

Luckily this contractor was referred to RICOMAN to use our Burgess Ceiling Clips. These were simply attached to the back of our Pure panels (using the captive nuts on the back of the panel) and then pushed up into the metal clip in ceiling. By choosing our burgess clip in metal ceiling clips, this saved the contractor time and also produced a much better finish visually and performance-wise.

Lighting for transport is of course not limited to the waiting rooms but is a huge lighting application area that includes airports, check-in rooms, platforms, depots and so on.
